Making More from Less: Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College

The most sustainable building is often the one already standing. At Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC), we developed a phased plan to renew more than 140,000 square feet of existing space. A detailed audit, community consultation, and review of 52 room schedules found substantial unused capacity. Better planning reduced the case for new construction.

The Master Space Plan recommends new uses for underused rooms, including a former pool. It sets priorities for lecture halls, technique labs, research, fitness, offices, food service, and social space. At its centre is a Learning and Assessment Centre for clinical training. The study turned evidence into a practical roadmap: use space better, invest in stages, and keep the campus ready for change.
